The nation’s second largest city, Los Angeles is also among its most diverse. Los Angeles is the first stop for a lot of new arrivals from Latin America and Asia, and many of these new residents live and work below the poverty line. Hundreds of thousands of Angelinos rely on low skill, low-paying jobs in the service sector and the informal economy. Many of these Angelinos, however, would make ideal Grameen America customers. Though many today rely on predatory lenders or informal loan schemes, tomorrow, entrepreneurs could actually grow out of poverty. Los Angeles is the largest manufacturing center in the West – home to banking, shipping and culture. Let’s make it a future home for Grameen America, too.
